Cannes, France, the star-studded Riviera resort, enjoys a certain mystique and allure to travelers from all walks of life. Honeymooners, artists, yuppie-types, and retirees all find something of interest in this picturesque coastal town. A short drive away is the famed Monte Carlo and its grand casinos. More reminiscent of a museum, its premier casino, designed by renowned architect Charles Garnier, houses famed pieces of artwork from some of the world's finest artists. The lovely drive along the Cote d'Azur into Nice is one of the most beautiful and scenic roads anywhere, and along it you can see the famed Grand Prix Circuit where the famed motor race is held an. The magical medieval St. Paul de Vence, high above Cannes in the hills, was a highlight for our group. Scouring its many winding walkways in the artist colony there were boutiques, cafes, galleries, and beautiful vistas to enjoy. A hangout for the rich and famous, it is a town founded in 1536. Some of the world's finest artwork is on display and it has a history rich in both opulence and Nazi horror. Cobblestone walkways line the streets and history comes alive at every juncture within the walled city.
