Card Player Cruises Mediterranean Cruise

One of the most recognizable buildings in the entire world to schoolchildren and adults alike is the Leaning Tower of Pisa. No trip to this area would be complete without a stop here. When Card Player Cruises first visited this area several years ago, the tower was closed due to the danger of climbing it. Since that time, it has been secured and now is open for limited visits for the healthy of heart. Unfortunately, we did not have the time to make the trek to the top, not without missing the boat anyway! Folk lore tells us that Bonanno, who began the construction of the tower in 1174, intended for it to lean. This too is where it is said that Galileo did his experiments with the laws of gravity. The cathedral, which shares the square, dates back to 1063 and was designed by Buschetto. It is odd to see what has become of this area, as the plaza right across the walkway to this extraordinary site is an entire block of swap meet type stuff. Purses, snow globes, and T-shirts adorn one side of the street while these monuments to the past tower above proudly and with a little bit of disdain, I would guess. Regardless, these are amazing sites and not to be missed.
