Happy Easter

Easter is one of my favorite days of the year; I think it has to do with my upbringing. I am lucky to have an incredibly wonderful mother who has a “joie de vivre” that is remarkable. Mom is with me in Las Vegas today and I know what that means… I will wake up to beautifully colored Easter eggs and I will have to (I mean get to) hunt for them at some point today. I will also get to talk to my siblings and cook an Easter feast for some of my friends.

My mom is an inspiration to me. She has been a role model to me throughout my life. At my age – 61 – I have come to realize that I truly was blessed at birth. Mom has always been my biggest supporter and though we didn’t have a lot of money growing up, she always made sure we had “enough”. She decorated for every holiday and made our home a happy, safe place. This is my blog and although this one has no poker content, I feel like celebrating my mother today.

Here are some of the life lessons Mom taught me:

She taught me respect… for others and for myself.

She taught me tolerance, kindness, and compassion

She made me do my homework and insisted that I get at least a 3.5 GPA

She taught me that if I make $10, I can spend $8 but must save at least $2.

She taught me to say please and thank you.

She taught me how to cook and make my bed.

She taught me to stop and smell the roses.

She taught me to “turn the other cheek.”

She taught me to be grateful for what I have, not envious of what I don’t have.

She taught me to have a good work ethic.

She gave me confidence and taught me that I could be successful at anything I tried hard enough to achieve.

If all mothers were like mine, the world would be a better place.

Parents, reach out and hug your kids if you can.
Make sure they know they are loved and have value.

Thanks Mom!
