Whale Watching tour

Juneau Whale Watching/Salmon Bake Tour - Fri, Aug 23 2024

Card Player Cruises has combined two of the best excursions in Juneau: whale watching followed by a salmon bake.

Our whale watching adventure begins when we board a bus for a 25-minute journey through the picturesque landscape of Southeast Alaska (keep an eye out for bald eagles and bears) to Auke Bay Harbor. You will board a private, chartered catamaran with other Card Player Cruises passengers and go in search of whales.

The star of the tour is the humpback whale, but we have also seen orcas several times. Once we spot a whale, the captain will slow down and allow you to go out on the spacious viewing decks for a great photo opportunity. The custom design vessels provide unrestricted viewing from inside the cabin as well as outside. There will be a naturalist on board to tell us all about the wildlife we see. A light snack will be provided.

Next, we will head to the delicious Gold Creek Salmon Bake. The salmon is marinated in a special sauce and grilled over an alder wood fire. Delicious! The all-you-can-eat feast also includes chicken, ribs, salads, beans, etc. The setting is in the rainforest and you can easily walk to the waterfall about 10 minutes away and/or check out a gold mine and pan for gold. After dinner, enjoy the marshmellow pit and local entertainment.

Linda Johnson said, "I have been on the whale watch excursion at least 20 times and we always see whales, as well as sea lions and other wildlife. The salmon bake is loads of fun and the food is great. I love this excursion!"

NOTE: The buses will not accommodate scooters. Foldable wheelchairs are allowed but are difficult to maneuver at the outdoor salmon bake. There is very minimal walking on this tour but you must be able to walk up the steps of the bus and step onto the whale watching boat. We will be dropped off about 50 feet from the outdoor dining area at the salmon bake; the walk to the waterfall is optional. You will be picked up very near the ship and returned to the same place. Please leave your passport on the ship. This excursion goes rain or shine. There are no refunds for no shows as we have prepaid the tickets. We recommend you dress in layers and bring an umbrella, after all it is Alaska!
